I received a publisher's advance copy of W. Bruce Cameron's first novel, "A Dog's Purpose". In a word? Magnificent. OK, two words. Brilliant. Actually three. An Absolutely, Positively Wonderful Book
A Dog's Purpose is one of the most fantastic, wonderful books I've ever read. Many have tried to write from the animal's perspective, but Bruce Cameron has hit it head on. I've never experienced so many emotions while reading one book. I laughed, I cried, I cheered.Put in the context of what is going on in my life right now, I was just waiting for A Dog's Purpose. My son and his wife had to have their 15-year-old golden retriever put to sleep after a long and full life, a short time ago. Even though I was 1,300 miles away from them at the time, I went through the pain and the grief. Right now I'm visiting with him and his wife and we started talking about them getting another dog. Initial reluctance moved on to checking out rescue web sites to starting to make a list of potential new puppies. And then they found THE ONE. Absolutely Wonderful!!!
Dog lovers will absolutely love this book. The author masterfully captures what many of us would imagine to be the thought processes of our dogs, and makes the reader think about the role we play in our pets' lives, for good and for bad. While the book has its uplifting moments, make sure to have some tissues nearby as there are many, many tearful moments in the story of this dog's numerous lives. Lest anyone think that this is yet another book in the growing dog channeling genre, rest assured that this book is much more than that. This is a book that will make you think not only about the purpose of a dog's life, but the purpose of life in general.

Take It To The Top, Cool Dog!
Cool Dog is one of the greatest movies of the past decade. What appears to be a simple movie about a boy and his dog on the surface is really a uncompromising examination of class, crime and religion in today's society. I don't want to spoil too much, but you will be surprised at how deeply Cool Dog plumbs the depths of your soul. You will laugh, but you will cry, and in the end you will come back a better human being.Everybody, young and old, should watch Cool Dog. great kid's movie!
any kid that likes dogs even a little will love this fun, adventurous movie. It probably could be picked apart by adults who have no sense of fun and wonder and hope but through a child's eyes this is terrific! The dog is a dog that kids yearn for: one that is smart, fun and protective and will do anything for his best friend."Cool Dog" is funny enough for the family to sit down to together. Only drawback I can see is the kids will want a dog just like, "Rainy"!

mwa.... so-so
Possible spoiler alert.I didn't particular like this movie. Too melodramatic for me. Where's the fun in that!? Combined with some, what seems to me unneeded and totally phony fantasy. Why did Rainey need to drive a car? But..... kids (10 and 6 yol) watched through it and had some laughs. Rating 3 stars because of that that. My 6 yol liked the scene where Rainey is shooting tennis balls at the bully.

Charming picture book
This is a delightful little picture book. It has no narraration and needs none. Through its pictures, it tells the story of a boy and a dog and a frog they try unsuccessfully to catch. The boy and the dog then go home to get cleaned up in the bath tub. The frog, who had enjoyed the little game of chase and is now a bit lonely, follows them and joins them in the tub. This is a great book to have your pre-schooler read to you

Wonderful little book
My mother "read" this series to me when I was a kid, and I remember always reaching for this one for years afterwards. The illustrations are outstanding -- my mother and I would laugh over a different page every time we read it, because of the boy's expression, the frog's grin, or the way the dog sat. Simple things, but not only was I learning to enjoy books, I learned to use my words to tell stories, notice details, and just have fun with my parents. This isn't a passive "hear a story read to you" experience.Perhaps needless to say, this book is one of the first gifts I give to nieces and friends at baby showers or birthdays. At showers, everyone has a good laugh over the pictures, and it's always a big hit. My own kids will have the complete set -- probably before they're even born!

Superb
When my little boy wanted to 'read' and still didn't know how, we went looking for wordless books. This was a great find. Even now that he's starting to read, this is one of his favorite books to 'read'. It is creative and the pictures are adorable. They are funny and they tell a story. But you can tell the story from several points of view and find new things to talk about every time. Very good.Enjoy.

What a Powerful Tale
As a grown man not prone to crying, by the end of this film I was a blubbering mess, and I've probably not shed a tear in more than ten years. Anyone who loves dogs, I imagine, will be in the same state after witnessing the amazing loyalty displayed by one selfless canine.I'd actually heard the story many times. A loyal dog returns to train station to meet his master even after he dies. But the film really brings the point home following the entire life span of the dog. But what I feel makes this film stand out is how it shows the perspective of the dog, a great reminder that "Hachi" is the protagonist in the film and giving insight into the emotions he felt. Additionally, the dog was portrayed as a dog, not a human character in a dog suit capable of impossible feats and acts, which for me, made the story so much more enjoyable and made the dog so much more believable.Please disregard the one-star rating given by the Akita breeder in Nevada who didn't really...

As the owner of an Akita for almost 12 years (now at 'The Bridge'), I have been anxiously waiting for the Hachiko Monogatari, 1987 Japanese production, to be adapted for the American audience. I was so pleased that they kept the story simple; one of a man and his dog, of forging bonds of unconditional love and devotion. And, even though I knew the story very well and, prepared myself in advance, the tears were inevitable.Going straight to DVD, this film will not be a big money maker, therefore, I consider it a timeless gift and treasure, from all involved with the project. It was not easy, taking a year to complete, clearly becoming a labor of love. Watching Gere interact with the dogs, you can tell he is truly in his element. The joy on his face makes you believe that Hachi really is his devoted companion. I truly thank and respect Gere for joining such a challenging endeavor and I can't think of anyone more perfect for the role of the sensitive Professor...

MAGICAL
This brilliant film, full of magnificent performances, does not preach, but will pierce the hardest heart.I extend my deepest appreciation to Mr. Hallstrom, Richard Gere, Joan Allen, and the Akita trainers for bringing this unforgettable story into my home, where it will be enjoyed again, and again.My wife, who NEVER comments on a movie, said "That was one of the best movies I have ever seen."Our 14-year-old Beagle usually rests in one place for ten minutes and moves to another spot in the room. While we watched HACHI, she remained between us on the sofa for the entire movie. She sensed our contentedness and rose only to lick our faces during the film's powerful emotional scenes.Kudos to Mr. Gere for his diligence in making his relationship with the dogs feel genuine...and for the most amazing death scene I have ever witnessed portrayed in a film.Since the real HACHIKO died in 1934, this film was long overdue, but more than worth the wait.

I was searching for free books for my daughter, and I picked it, since she is crazy about dogs.Each question is illustrated with a picture, so there was always something to show her.It is fun to go through it once for native English speakers, it will be read more times for foreigners (like me and my kid), who know the dog's name only in their own language. :)There were facts I did not know of, so it was a nice read for me too.
